It all began with the family’s patriarch, Captain Kelly Owens, who made the move to Port Aransas in 1985 but had been fishing there long before that. With a dream and a determination to succeed through sheer perseverance and an unyielding work ethic, he established a legacy that would be passed down through the generations. Beth and Kelly have three adult children – Mac, Kellie Elizabeth, and Kendall. Mac lives in Port Aransas and is the general manager of Deep Sea Headquarters and owner of Jackfish Cart Rentals. Kellie Elizabeth lives in Dallas and is a 1st-grade teacher. Kendall moved back to Port Aransas after graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, and is the Director of Business Leadership and Development for My Fun Port A.
Building Businesses and Overcoming Challenges
Kelly started his professional fishing career as a boat captain until he bought Deep Sea Headquarters in May of 1996. In addition to Deep Sea Headquarters, Owens and his wife Beth own FINS Grill and Icehouse, MacDaddy’s Family Kitchen, and Tortuga’s Saltwater Grill. The Owens family’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges. From navigating hurricanes to weathering economic downturns, they have faced numerous obstacles. However, their resilience and ability to adapt have allowed them to thrive.

The Owens family opened FINS in 2005, and will be celebrating the 20th anniversary in Port Aransas on Friday, April 18, 2025. The celebration will include giveaways and a 20% discount on the entire bill as the restaurant marks two decades of “waterfront dining and family fun.”
